Planned Giving

What is planned giving?

This is the best way to combine your personal financial objectives with your charitable goals. These gifts are made over time, and have several tax benefits that ensure a legacy of social change. A planned gift to Ashoka helps to ensure the future of the services and programs we provide in your community and worldwide, and can further your financial planning goals.

Planned gifts include contributions you can make through your will, charitable trust, insurance policy, or retirement plan.

How do I include Ashoka in my will?
Many of our supporters make charitable gifts by naming Ashoka: Innovators for the Public as a beneficiary in their wills. The federal government encourages these gifts or bequests by allowing an unlimited estate tax charitable deduction.

There are three ways to make a bequest:

Specific Bequest
You designate a specific dollar amount, specific percentage, or specific property to Ashoka.

Residual Bequest
Your estate will pay all debts, taxes, expenses, and specific bequests. The remaining amount—the residue—will be transferred to Ashoka.

Contingent Bequest
You can ask that Ashoka receive all or a portion of your estate only under certain circumstances. For example, you can designate Ashoka: Innovators for the Public as a beneficiary of your estate only if there are no surviving close family members. Childless couples sometimes provide for the entire estate to go to the surviving spouse, or if the spouse does not survive, to Ashoka.

Other ways to give:

Through a Retirement Plan—by naming Ashoka as beneficiary of all, or a portion of, your retirement account assets such as your IRA, 401(k), 403(b), Keogh, or other qualified plan.
Through an Insurance Policy or Annuity—by naming Ashoka as first, second, or as contingent beneficiary of a life insurance policy or annuity.

Once you decide you would like to support Ashoka's work, simply provide your attorney with our legal designation language:

Ashoka: Innovators for the Public
1700 North Moore Street
Suite 2000
Arlington, VA. 22209-1929

Ashoka is a tax-exempt organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Ashoka's tax identification number is 51-0255908.

The following language will also be helpful to your lawyer:
I give, devise, and bequeath to Ashoka: Innovators for the Public, the sum of _____ (or otherwise describe the gift or specify a percentage of the estate).
